An Unexpected Journey
A little bit of my story as a landscape photographer
My name is Padraic Giardina, I approached photography almost by chance in 2011, but quickly understood the genre that was closest to my taste and personality, namely landscape photography. This is probably due to the beautiful region I live in, Friuli Venezia Giulia (north eastern Italy). As a matter of fact in one hour’s drive I can get to Venice to the west, Slovenia to the east, the Alps to the north and the sea to the south. This strategic position allows me to reach a varied selection of beautiful locations in a very short time, ideal for a photography enthusiast like myself.
Over the years, in my spare time, I have explored my home region more and more deeply, often crossing over to Veneto, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Trentino (South Tyrol). At a certain point I realized how much I needed to find increasingly isolated and wild locations, in order to move as far as possible from the rhythms and problems of everyday life. Photography has therefore become a real outlet, a way to lift my soul and mood, my excuse to go out trekking, training my body and mind.
I am not a professional photographer, I have had the pleasure of seeing some of my shots published in various magazines, but my “real” job is another one. Free time and opportunities for going out and traveling are limited to weekends and holidays. Despite this, I can count myself lucky in having been able to visit several countries far from my home, including France, Spain, Greece, the United States, Scotland, Wales and the Faroe Islands. You can see the result of all this wandering in the thematic galleries on this little personal website of mine. I have always wanted to put quality and care before quantity, I am very selective and self-critical towards my creations. The photos you can find here are not all those that I could have produced or that I have actually taken, but only those that have fully convinced me.
I hope that by looking at my portfolio, taking a glimpse at my very personal way of seeing nature and the world around us, you will be able to distinguish and feel the same emotions that I experienced by taking those photographs. If this should happen, my goal would be achieved: being able to communicate through images. Nothing is more powerful and direct, sometimes even more than words themselves.
